2025 - July - Social

July proved to be a mixed bag for HSVOCWA – a few setbacks, but plenty of highlights that remind us why this club is so special. We started the month with high hopes for a night at the Galaxy Drive-Ins to catch F1: The Movie. It had generated plenty of interest and was shaping up to be something different and exciting. Unfortunately, the drive-in cancelled the screening at the last minute, leaving us with no choice but to cancel the event. It was a real disappointment, especially for members who had been looking forward to it, but ultimately it was out of our control.

Thankfully, the month picked up in a big way. We kicked off the first of our three-round Show’n’Shine series at AutoFX WA. The turnout was solid, and the cars on display – as always – didn’t disappoint. Tony Hinkley’s beautifully presented VP GTS was a real standout, grabbing attention from everyone who walked past and taking out the People’s Choice Award by a clear margin. Events like these are what it’s all about – showing off your pride and joy, appreciating each other’s builds, and enjoying the shared passion for HSVs that connects us all. It costs nothing to enter, so I encourage all members to get involved, whether your car is showroom-ready or a well-loved work in progress. Every round counts, with winners from each category and round being announced at the Gala Dinner later this year. If you want to be part of the next one, check out our future events page for details on the Celebration of Motorsport and the Curtin FM 101.1 Car Show.

We also shook things up this month with something completely different. Members swapped their HSVs for 4x4s and headed north for an off-road beach adventure at Ledge Point. The weather was spot-on – no wind, warm in the sun, and perfect for winter. For some, it was their first time off the bitumen, and the mix of nerves and excitement quickly turned into pure fun as we tackled sandy tracks, climbed dunes, and pushed through obstacles. It was a refreshing change from our usual club program and a great way to connect with each other in a more relaxed, adventurous setting. The day wrapped up with a beachside BBQ and some quality social time before we aired up and headed back to Perth. No one got bogged, nothing broke down, and the smiles said it all – a complete success. If you missed this one, don’t worry – we’re planning another as the weather warms up and becomes more reliable.

Looking ahead, August is shaping up nicely with a few more events in the pipeline. Depending on the weather, we may slot in another HSVOCWA Cool Cars & Coffee event, which always draws a good crowd. We’ve also got the Cruise to the Track and Hot Laps event on the horizon – a great chance to stretch the legs of your car and get some seat time in a safe, fun environment. Make sure to keep an eye on the events page for the latest.

While we’re on the topic of events, I want to take a moment to stress the importance of registering via the club website. I know it’s easy to just click “Going” on Facebook, but that doesn’t allow us to get in touch with you directly or send out important event details. Using the website also helps the committee plan better, manage numbers, and understand what types of events members are most interested in. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference.

To everyone who attended events this month – thank you. You’re the reason this club works. Your involvement, energy, and enthusiasm are what keep it all alive. Without it, events lose steam, and the whole club suffers. Please spare a thought for the planning, effort, and time it takes from our committee to make these events happen. And if there’s something you’d love to see on the calendar – don’t hesitate to get in touch with your social committee rep. We’re always open to new ideas and fresh takes.

We’re building something great here – not overnight, but piece by piece. Every event, every member, every moment of connection brings us closer to a stronger, more inclusive club. Let’s keep the wheels turning.
