  • 2025 - September - Social

September kept us on our toes – starting out wet and cold before finishing with sunshine, motorsport action, and one of our biggest public showcases yet.

We opened the month with our Annual Peter Brock Memorial Cruise, and true to our word, it went ahead despite the unseasonably rainy conditions. Fitting really – if anyone could drive the wheels off a car no matter the weather, it was Brocky. The route through the Perth Hills was a fantastic drive, made even more memorable by the challenging conditions. After paying our respects at Peter’s memorial, we headed on to the Parkerville Tavern, where members braved the drizzle once again to enjoy a great meal, a few drinks, and that unbeatable HSVOCWA social vibe.

    4. President's Report- Jason Brotherson

    • Wanneroo sprint was an overall success- achieving break even just.  Variety that turned up was encouraging with decent driver training and engagement. Social was a bit down for lunch time and looking to do more to try and overlay of social and motorsport
    • Want to do more driver training mornings – suggestion to move DT to lunch segment as afternoon sessions are quieter and provides more quality time for participants.
    • Committee decision to introduce drug and alcohol testing at our events. Want to show we are taking some measures to have member safety and public safety on our minds. Equipment purchased and will be rolled at future events.
    • Reminder Kwinana is coming up – thanks to Tim for the more V8 focused layout. Reminder that instructors can assist new people throughout the day so don’t be scared to have a go, can extend to including instructors in cars. Noted low attendance with 20 registered – need 33 registrations to break even.
    • Christmas event is live now – payment plans available – can book tables of 8 so get in quick. Heavily subsidised – tickets are cheaper than the meal menu and quality entertainment and venue.
    • More Social events coming up – really need people to register and show up to these events

    5. Vice President's Report- Jamie Gilbert

    • Thanks to Ray for doing treasurer blog and taking on the role
    • Great to have magazine at last month’s meeting, again thanks to Ray for sorting the printing.

    • This month’s track event – Matt James Wallace and Jamie spent loads of time documenting the system setup and will do same for Kwinana.
    • End of Year Function will be a great event, welcome drinks, dance floor, live music
    • Noted so far we have sold 20 tickets but 100-125 ideally to attend.

    • Need to put calendar together for 2026 - Driver training has been popular / full sprint day too much? Half sprint day – open to opinions/feedback on next years events

    Tim Wright

    • Kwinana will be good – nice flowing circuit, opportunity to have more senior guys in the club can jump into your car, for less than $100 gets a free coffee as well, come along to assist on the day for marshalling speak to Tim or Mike.

Note: a call for officials as another party hiring other part of the venue – need a person to direct traffic so people don’t end up on circuit.

    Kwinana event further discussed:

    • Open to passengers over 14 – this includes volunteers if they sign disclaimers and have correct protection kit.
    • 4 runs for the event – but if we can get as many runs in as we can
    • At the end of the day have a Debrief – what worked well or needs improvement for next time.

    • Triumph club didn’t attend due to being at Collie weekend.
    • Roberto reminded members in the room to always good to encourage people and introduce yourself and take an interest in their car .
    • Other clubs can be a bit snobby but HSV Club of WA has always been friendly and that was witnessed by Jaguar club who are keen to come back.

    • Social is a bit like a bear – hibernates during winter
    • Torana went out onto the track
    • Tim took some people out with his Yaris – it was an awesome event
    • Bit disappointing that more people didn’t show up
    • People pay big money to do those sorts of events
    • Peter Brock cruise coming up, shifted meet point – West Coast Commodores is meeting at the original meet point, moved it up the road, Big cruise this year – about 90kms – through hills to memorial, then head to pub for lunch social chat afterwards, Table booked at Parkerville Tavern.

Collective member chats on open floor:

    • Driver training seems to be an attractive option – committee will review better options to extend this to more members and family.
    • Discussion whether a half day- sprint day was an option, get entry fees lower- Tim and Mike to review.
    • Discussion to improve DT; a suggestion to assign chaperones to drivers ahead of time – Jason to consider for next event.
    • James mentioned that what members wanted, the club was delivering as the survey was great, but the results aren’t reflective of people showing up and registering to events. James took note that the events and suggestions were improvement was always open for discussion.
